ELSTON PARK

Public BBQ

Elston Park proves that the best discoveries often lurk beside busy highways. Despite its roadside location, this verdant oasis manages to muffle the traffic din with its canopy of mature trees and community spirit. The star attraction is undoubtedly the free water park - a godsend on sweltering Dubbo days that had local youngsters squealing with delight while parents claimed shaded picnic tables with obvious relief. The playground caters admirably to various ages, though the larger equipment might give cautious parents pause. What strikes you most is the meticulous maintenance; council clearly takes pride in this space. The barbecue facilities are spotless, the grassed areas expansive enough for a proper kick-about, and there's something wonderfully democratic about a place where families can spend hours without spending a dollar. Just mind the heated slides on scorching afternoons.
